My Hotwire Review
Like the rest of the crew here at CouponSuck, I travel a lot. I’ve tried a lot of different travel sites, so I like to consider myself something of an expert on them.
Enter my Hotwire review.
Hotwire’s site looks like what you’d expect it to. A homepage which immediately entices you to either click a flashy deal, or enter your travel dates and destination. Their UI is very clean and easy to navigate.
The main thing that I think is different about Hotwire, which I really really like is the speed. The site loads flight/hotel/whatever options REALLY quickly. It doesn’t create ten thousand popups of other sites also performing the same search at the same time. That shit annoys the f*** out of me. Popups are the worst—let’s consolidate, people. Hotwire consolidates, so they’ve easily won me there.
Watch Out for Traps
A funny thing I noticed is that they’ll usually tell you the cheapest flight, and then also tell you the bundled price with a hotel. It’s done in an interesting format. For example, my flight from LAX to LHR said that for one of the flights, if I bundled it with a hotel, the flight would be 100% free.
Ha. That I did not believe—and when I checked into it, it was misleading. It was only true because that particular flight was quite expensive on its own, and the hotel they bundled it would also have been expensive on its own. As a more “cheap” traveler, I never would have booked either the flight or the hotel independently. So bundling them didn’t save me anything. But still, if I was a fancy-pants person, it might have been useful.
Anyway, all that said, I thought Hotwire was a really great travel deal site. I’d use it to purchase a flight in the future. Be sure to check it out via this link for the best deals.
