I love rideshare services. I’ve tried the majority of them.
That said, Curb has a special place in my heart. I’ve always appreciated taxis, and lamented their decline when Uber and Lyft appeared. But Curb is a happy medium. It connects Taxi drivers to customers looking for quick and easy rides. So taxi drivers can still compete with rideshare services. And customers don’t really notice the difference.
Granted, taxi drivers on average are a bit less bubbly than rideshare drivers. Lyft drivers in particular tend to be the happiest, friendliest bunch. But taxi drivers know the layout of the city, and are professional. They get you from point A to point B, no questions asked.
My one complaint about Curb (and taxis in general) is that the drivers aren’t as up to date on technology. Particularly map apps like Waze and Google Maps. They tend to be more likely to use TomToms or GPS devices. I hate those things, as they are not updated with current traffic.
In LA that can be a killer. It can change a 30 minute trip into an hour long one, if you take the wrong turn into traffic.
My advice to anyone trying out Curb—it’s great, but map your destination on your own. If you see your driver doing something super un-Waze-like, say something. They *may* listen to you (some have gotten annoyed).
