Why I Subscribed
My dad always had a great record collection, stashed under the bar in his garage. My friends and I used to play them constantly in high school, until one of us (allegedly by accident) broke his record player. A couple years later I bought him a fancy new one for his birthday — except he’d gone full modern-man and switched to streaming everything on his Roku instead of touching a single record. So I took the new player back for myself. He still won’t give up the actual records, though, so I needed my own source of vinyl. That’s how I ended up subscribing to Vinyl Me Please.
I subscribed back in November 2015, and I’ve kept the subscription going on and off ever since — enough records at this point that it’s genuinely easy to write an honest, positive review. Every record is custom-pressed just for VMP subscribers, the colorways are consistently fun and unusual, and each sleeve includes an original 12″x12″ art print worth framing on its own. Records span every decade and genre — that’s the whole appeal. You don’t pick what shows up, and I’ve come to like not knowing what I’m about to hear when I drop the needle.

Each record still comes with its own cocktail pairing recipe card — something smoky and classy for a jazz pressing, something fruitier for an upbeat one. It’s a nice touch if you keep a stocked bar; if you don’t drink, it’s more of a curiosity than something you’ll actually use, but it doesn’t detract from the record itself.
Is Vinyl Me Please Worth It?
If you like surprises and don’t mind an occasional miss, yes. VMP’s membership has historically run somewhere in the $23-$36/month range depending on tier and whether you prepay a longer term — treat that as a rough historical range rather than today’s exact number, since pricing loads dynamically on their site and can shift. Check the live signup page for the current figure before you commit. If you’d rather hand-pick every record yourself, you may be happier just buying LPs directly — but some pressings in VMP’s catalog were never otherwise released on vinyl, which is the strongest argument for the surprise-box format if you’re chasing exclusives.
One honest update since I first wrote this review: the referral link I originally shared here (through VMP’s old Friendbuy-powered “refer a friend” program) no longer works — it now returns Friendbuy’s “offer not available” page, which tracks with referral programs across a lot of brands quietly going dark over the past couple years.
