I was first introduced to the Casper mattress via advertising on the NYC subway almost a year ago. I was intrigued, investigated, and found a few other mattresses like Casper that had a lot to offer. I needed to furnish two rooms with beds, so tried out 4 different mattresses (and kept two).
As a result of all this, I inadvertently became quite knowledgeable about the mattress in a box industry. Now I’m here to share what my mattress in a box comparison results.

First I’ll provide a quick facts overview of my four favorite mattress-in-a-box mattresses. Then I’ll jump into a mattress in a box comparison review, in the order that I first checked out the beds.

Who Wins?
♦ Leesa vs Helix ♦
The first bed we got was the Leesa. I think we’d been tipped off to this $75 discount from a friend and thought it was a good place to start. We got the Queen size with the classic cover, which totaled $815 (originally $890 but $815 with the $75 discount).
Having only slept on spring mattresses before, this was a crazy new experience. Both my husband and I were sold from the get-go. What great sleep we were having! How amazingly refreshed we woke up!
But then…about 2 weeks in, I started getting back pain. Crazy back pain. My back-sleeper husband was still sleeping great, but it started getting so bad that I wasn’t even sleeping through the night. I felt like I was 80 years old (I’m 35).
The annoying thing about all these mattress in a box places is that for their return/refund policy, you HAVE to keep the bed for at least 30 days before can do anything. I think they want to make sure your body settles into the new arrangement. So we waited. And I was getting more and more frustrated and unhappy, all while my husband slept peacefully beside me.
To summarize: Back-sleepers will probably love this mattress. Side sleepers perhaps not so much.
So looked into the Helix. The cool thing about this mattress is that it’s totally customizable—including making each side of the bed a different softness, or creating a nice in-between feel. You even can put in any ailments you have, and it will take that into account. It felt very science-y and cool, but who knows how much of it is just a facade?
So after taking the survey on their site, we ended up seeing mattress that was a combination of what my husband and I preferred in bed firmness.
I haven’t yet placed an order, as I’m nervous about what might happen at that 2 week mark, knowing what had happened with Leesa. But from other reviews I’ve seen, it sounds like it’s going to be ok. Helix holds up well over time.

♦ The Nest Love Bed vs Helix ♦
Time for our final bed! The Nest Bedding Love Bed appealed mainly to my husband because of the name. I think the idea behind the name is that the mattress is soft enough for a good night’s sleep, while still being firm enough for…ahem, stuff.
To start out I was skeptical because it sounds like the kind of sordid rotating circular bed you’d see in Austin Powers. But I must plow on with my mattress in a bed comparison shopping!
The nice thing about The Love Bed, and Nest Bedding in general, is that they have physical store locations in certain cities, including Los Angeles and New York. So we actually went and checked it out. The bed comes in three firmnesses—the soft, medium, and firm. We opted for the medium—I’d have ideally gotten the soft, and my husband the firm. So we went in the middle.
When we first got it home and started sleeping in it, I was optimistic. It felt a little bit more cloud-y than the previous mattresses, but it wasn’t so soft that my husband complained.
After 30 days, I knew I’d found the one. It has now been almost a year, and I’m as much in love with The Love Bed as ever. Every night it feels like falling onto a cloud. I never wake up sore, and I sleep deeply and restfully. My husband loves it too, and realizes how wrong he was about liking the Leesa in the beginning. Fool!

The Love Bed wins SO good. Oh my god I’m in love with this bed. Get one here.

Since originally writing this post I have now also discovered the Endy Mattress. You can read the full description here. To summarize, it gets 4/5 stars. It IS the cheapest of all the mattresses, at $700 for a queen once you take off this sweet $50 discount.

Having look at four different mattress in a box mattresses, we fell deeply in love with The Love Bed, and now use it in our master bedroom. We also really like the sound of the Helix mattress, and will be buying that soon
