GetAround is a peer-to-peer carsharing service. You can rent cars from your neighbors by the hour, or by the day. All cars can by unlocked with your phone. Super easy and super convenient if you need a truck to pickup a couch, or just a regular sedan for getting around town for a couple days.

There are a few other services that are very similar to GetAround and also have their own merits. We list them below!

Turo is my most used car-sharing service. I often find I have need of a reliable car for a long term trip (my car is old-ish), and Turo is where I turn to. It’s also great if you need to use a van or pickup truck for a day or two for moving furniture. However, you do have to organize pickup or delivery with the car owner, so it’s not ideal if you need a car on demand. Better if you can book a day in advance.

Zipcar is more of an on-demand carsharing service. If you need a car, simply head onto the app and find one nearby. Book it and unlock the car with your phone. And you’re off!

Skurt is something midway between a car rental service and a car sharing service. When you book a Skurt car, you can get it delivered straight to you, on-demand. No waiting around, no coordinating pickup with someone. It comes to you (for a small delivery fee).

Car2Go is another on-demand car sharing app (currently mainly in Germany though). Simply locate an available car on the app and unlock it when you get to it. No need to refill gas at the end, or even to return the car to the same spot you started at.

RV Share is an awesome way to rent RVs from owners! We haven’t tried it out, so we’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments below.
